The research base on the relative effects of school size is large and quite consistent (for example, see Gregory, 1992; Howley, 1994, 1996; Jewell, 1989; Kershaw and Blank, 2993; Monk and Haller; 1993; Nachtigal, 1992; Robinson-Lewis, 1991). Small schools consistently outperform larger schools on a variety of indicators, including academic as well as behavioral and social-emotional outcomes. Accordingly, SCS is limiting its size to two classes per grade level. We currently, during the 2011-2012 schoolyear, serve students in Kindergarten through 7th grade. Next year, during the 2012-2013 schoolyear, we will add our final grade level and will serve students in Kindergarten through 8th grade.
