Gifted and Talented students at SCS are served daily in core classrooms through differentiated instruction. Students also receive individualized instruction daily through the Intervention and Advancement Team (IAT) program. During the first period of each day, the IAT period, these students are taught in homogeneous classes with others who are functioning at similarly high levels. The program spends a trimester each on reading, writing, and mathematics instruction.
In addition, SCS is implementing an Honors program for 7th grade students during the 2011-2012 schoolyear. The Honors program includes small group, advanced instruction in English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. Criteria for entry are based on student benchmarks, classroom performance, and teacher recommendation.
